What is the Propane Construction Research Program?
It is a pilot program of the Propane Education and Research Council (PERC). The Council that educates, funds and leads a national dialogue about the role propane energy plays in an equitable society.
Clean propane and renewable propane offers a significant competitive advantage to lower energy costs compared with all electric homes. High performing propane appliances for the home and engines for power generation, school buses, trucks and forklifts, agriculture applications, construction equipment and more is an important role that propane plays today and will in the future of an equitable energy society. The more affordable energy is the more equitable its distribution will be.
As a member of the Propane Construction Research Program, builders can earn up to $1,000 per new home by installing propane appliances and sharing installation data.
Remodeled projects that replace heating oil or electric appliances with Propane may qualify for an additional $500.
As part of the program, participants are required to complete a survey about the homes they build or remodel using propane.
In 2024, 1,946 homes participated in 23 U.S. States. The Program awarded $2,500,000 to Construction Professionals. The program saw a 35% reduction in carbon emissions per project and thousands of homeowners enjoyed lower utility bills confirming that propane is for everyone.
Propane is an affordable energy solution and is environmentally friendly. It’s a way to reduce emissions while meeting energy needs. As a nontoxic energy source, it doesn’t contaminate soil or groundwater.
In 2026 a Propane Farm Research Program will kick off to help farmers invest in next-generation technology and equipment. It offers direct compensation to farmers who adopt and test new propane-powered technologies.
